The Hacking Spree Continues: Six More Goa Government Websites Targeted

The Trending News
Goa Government Websites Hacked
It appears as if the row over government website hacking in India deters to wither. In a fresh incident, six websites of Goa government became victim to this rapidly rising cyber crime. As per the information given by the Goa Police to IANS, the sites were compromised through a Palestine-based server.

Among the departments whose websites have been hacked include Civil Supplies, a local municipal council, and Land Record, and the site of Chief Electoral Officer. As a precautionary measure, the respective departments have taken down the hacked websites. Talking to media, one of the officers of Goa Police Cyber Cell said, "The websites have been hacked using a Palestine-based server. We believe the hacker group is based in Palestine".

Notably, this is not the first time that a Goa website has been hacked.  One similar episode took place on October 24, 2014 when the hackers from Pakistan took control of the website of the Goa Governor Mridula Sinha. In July 2013 as well, a Pakistani group identified by Police as H4x0r HuSsy, hacked 13 websites that were controlled by various state government departments of Goa.

Considering these reports, the need is to strengthen the cyber security in India even further. The role of cyber experts to combat such crimes is hence of utmost significance. Additionally, various Diploma, Degree, and Certificate courses in Information Security, which are already being run by various Universities in India could also prove to be effectual in this regard.
