The mini-auction for the IPL 2023 season is out now with Sam Curran from Punjab King becoming the all-time most expensive player for a whopping INR 18.5 crore. The other key players to make it to the costliest auction ever were:
- Cameron Green sold to Mumbai Indians for INR 17.5 Crore
- Ben Stokes sold to Chennai Super Kings INR 16.25 crore
- Nicholas Pooran sold to Lucknow Super Giants for INR 16 crore
The auction that took place in Kochi on Dec 23, 2022 sealed
the fate of 80 players out of 405, bought by 10 teams for a staggering amount
of INR 17 crore. A total of 51 Indian cricketers found takers in the auction as
7 IPL teams finished their respective maximum limit of 25 players.
Among the big names that went unsold included:
- Joe Root (Base Price - INR 1 crore)
- Shakib al Hasan (Base Price - INR 1.5 crore)
- Kusal Mendis (Base Price - INR 50 lakh)
- Tom Banton (Base Price - INR 2 crore)
A total of 41 uncapped players out of 51 Indians found buyers
in the auction with five of them bagging the lucrative 1-crore plus deal. These
included:
- Shivam Mavi - INR 6 crore (Gujarat Titans)
- Mukesh Kumar - Rs 5.5 crore (Delhi Capitals)
- Vivrant Sharma - Rs 2.6 crore (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
- Mayank Dagar - Rs 1.8 crore (Sunrisers Hyderabad), and
- KS Bharat - Rs 1.2 crore (Gujarat Titans)
Notably the next season of IPL is all set to roll out from
March 26, 2023 to May 28, 2023. The entire T20 cup will witness 74 games
between the ten IPL teams. Just to remind you, Gujarat Titans, captained by
Hardik Pandya won the last season of the cup in their very first appearance,
where they defeated Rajasthan Royals, captained by Sanju Samson.
Interestingly, the final match made it to the Guinness Book
of World Records for the maximum attendance of 101,566 spectators at a time. The
next edition is expected to be even more happening. So gear up!
